In this video Heimler takes you through Unit 9 Topic 3 of the AP World History curriculum which is set in the period 1900-present. As a result of industrialization and then globalization, serious serious strains on the environment created a crisis in the 20th and 21st centuries.
Some of the main problems are deforestation, desertification, decline in air quality, increasing pressure on the world’s freshwater supply, and a rising global temperature.
One cause of all of this is industrialization and globalization. A second cause is population growth and urbanization. But several global attempts to correct these problems have been made during this period. The World Health Organization was created to maintain standards of healthy living worldwide, including access to clean drinking water. Nations banded together for the Kyoto Protocol and then the Paris Agreement to combat the effects of climate change.
