Titanic conflicts between 1914 and 1945 have gravely weakened the European nations. Their world-wide power has gone and new superpowers dominate the world.

In this video Heimler walks you through global resistance to power structures from 1900 to the present, which aligns with the AP World History curriculum: Unit 8 Topic 7 (8.7).

With the proliferation of new power structures (and the persistence of old ones) after 1900, many groups rose up in resistance. Those who chose the non-violent path were folks like Mohandas Gandhi, Martin Luther King, Jr. and Nelson Mandela.

Some states exacerbated this resistance by clamping down on them violently. Idi Amin in Uganda and Fransisco Franco in Spain were two examples.

Those who chose to resist violently often resorted to terrorism, such as the Shining Path in Peru and Al-Qaeda.
