2nd Video | global mobilization and new military technology during WWI | 3B – identifying the evidence used in a source to support an argument |
In this video Heimler walks you through how World War I was carried on by the different nations that fought in it.What people thought would be a short war ground on for four long years in part because of new technology being employed like machine guns, gas attacks, and defensive trenches.World War I was also a total war, which is to say that all the nations who fought in it employed not only military resources to win the war but also domestic ones. Industries were converted to war production, food was rationed, and women went to work in the absence of men.In order to keep this domestic war machine churning, governments turned to the widespread use of propaganda which demonized the enemy and often exaggerated the danger on the Homefront. And finally, World War I was a truly global war. Battles were fought in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and Asia. Because of this, imperial powers called upon their colonial subjects to come fight for them.
