In this video Heimler takes you through Unit 9 Topic 8 of the AP World History curriculum which is set in period 6 (1900-present). Along
with the process of globalization, many significant international organizations have risen with it, most notably, the United Nations. This organization was created in 1945 after the close of World War II as a forum for nations to discuss their problems through diplomacy so they didn’t resort to blowing each other up.
The mission of the United Nations is to keep world peace and foster international cooperation. They do through many avenues, including military intervention (peacekeepers) and programs to help refugees and the hungry (World Food Program).
In addition to the United Nations, many nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) have been established to help facilitate the same goals, for example, the International Peace Bureau and the International Committee on the Red Cross.
