AP 23.109 Short-Answer Questions (SAQ)

Each short-answer question asks the scholar to do three things, and at least two of the four questions will require use or interpretation of a stimulus (the same types of stimulus material seen in the multiple-choice section: primary and secondary sources, graphs, charts, maps, images, etc.).

Each short-answer question will also directly assess one or more thematic learning objectives, as well as require you to demonstrate one or more historical thinking skills.

Although you do not need to develop and defend a thesis for these types of questions, you may not simply write a “bulleted” response. Instead, word your response to each part of each short-answer question in a complete sentence (or a few concise sentences), taking care to fit your entire response within the indicated space (box) in the response booklet. Be sure to include the correct number of clear, appropriate examples as required in the question in your response.

The scoring of the short-answer questions is fairly straightforward: you earn one point for each successfully answered part of each question!
