Russia lost and the Ottomans won, gaining a twenty-year respite from Russian pressure. The Ottomans granted Christians a degree of official equality and the Orthodox gained control of Christian churches disputed by the Ottomans. Russia gained a new appreciation for its own religious diversity and launched a reform program to that effect that had far-reaching consequences.
